Günün birinde büyük ve tuhaf bir cisim ile karşılaşır. Bu cisim gerçekte 300 yıldır yer altında uyuyan bir bebek kappadır (mitolojik bir su canlısı). Koichi bebek kappayı sahiplenerek evine götürür. "Coo" adını taktığı kappa ile yakın bir dostluk kuran Koichi bir süre sonra Coo'nun doğal yaşamından ayrı kaldığının ve Tokyo'daki yaşama ayak uyduramadığının farkına varır.
